Pioneer TX-8900 / TX-9500 Vintage AM/FM Tuner 76–108MHz 110–240V Serviced
Discover the Pioneer TX-8900, the Japanese domestic-market counterpart of the internationally marketed TX-9500. This beautifully engineered AM/FM stereo tuner combines classic Pioneer styling with the substantial construction and precise analogue tuning that make vintage Japanese Hi-Fi so appealing.
Introduced in the mid-1970s, the TX-8900 features a brushed aluminium front panel, a wide illuminated tuning scale, twin meters and a large tuning knob. Its timeless appearance makes it an excellent addition to a carefully assembled Pioneer system or a dedicated vintage audio collection.
This unit has been fully serviced by TechnoGold’s specialist technical department and is in perfect working order. Our comprehensive inspection and preventive maintenance are tailored to the equipment’s needs, followed by functional checks to ensure that it is ready to enjoy.
The FM section has been professionally modified internally to receive 76–108 MHz, extending coverage beyond its original Japanese frequency range to include the international FM broadcast band. The original printed dial scale remains in place, so its markings do not represent the full modified tuning range.
The power supply has also been professionally modified internally for operation on 110/120 V or 220/240 V. Before dispatch, we will configure the unit for the destination country and include the appropriate mains cable. No external voltage converter is required for the supplied configuration.
Its sophisticated FM front end incorporates a five-gang tuning capacitor and dual-gate MOSFET circuitry. This substantial design reflects Pioneer’s commitment to reception quality and precise station selection during one of the most celebrated periods of analogue Hi-Fi engineering.
Separate signal-strength and centre-tuning meters provide useful visual guidance when selecting a station. The front panel also offers an MPX noise filter, selectable muting levels and FM stereo/mono operation, allowing reception to be adjusted to suit the available signal.
Fixed and variable RCA audio outputs provide flexible connection to an amplifier, with convenient output-level adjustment from the front panel. The REC LEVEL CHECK function assists with recording-level setup, while the rear panel includes FM antenna connections, an adjustable AM ferrite antenna and dedicated multipath/4CH-MPX connections.
The original TX-8900 measures approximately 420 × 150 × 365 mm (W × H × D) and weighs approximately 9.1 kg. Its original rated consumption is 18 W. Please examine the photographs carefully, as they show the actual unit offered and form part of the description of its cosmetic condition.
This is an opportunity to acquire a professionally serviced Japanese-market Pioneer tuner with expanded FM coverage and an internally adapted power supply. It will be carefully protected and securely packed for shipment, with particular attention to its front panel, controls and tuning assembly.
