Technics SL-1200MK4 Limited Edition N# 9 Audiophile Custom – TechnoGold Series
Working Perfect 110/120/220/240 Volts AC
The legendary Technics SL-1200MK4 direct drive turntable presented here belongs to an exclusive limited custom audiophile series, carefully upgraded with high-grade components and premium mechanical refinements. Originally produced in Japan in the mid-1990s, the SL-1200MK4 remains one of the rarest models of the SL-1200 family, distinguished by its quartz-locked direct drive motor and the additional 78 RPM speed for archival shellac records. This particular unit has been part of a boutique custom project aimed at demanding audiophile collectors.
The Technics SL-1200MK4 was manufactured around 1996 and represents the final evolution of the classic SL-1200 series before the later MK5 generation. It was primarily intended for the Japanese high-fidelity market rather than DJ use. Production numbers were significantly lower than other SL-1200 models, which makes surviving examples increasingly desirable among collectors and high-end analog enthusiasts.
This unit features a beautifully executed audiophile customization including precision-machined gold anodized components such as the heavy record clamp, precision headshell, and high-mass isolation feet. The custom hardware enhances vibration control and improves the mechanical interface between the platter, record and tonearm, allowing the turntable to deliver maximum sonic performance from the original Technics engineering platform.
A numbered “Limited Edition – Product Certificate” plate confirms the exclusivity of this particular unit. Such boutique customizations are typically produced in very small numbers and are highly appreciated by collectors looking for unique, visually distinctive and technically refined versions of the classic Technics direct drive design.
The SL-1200MK4 is built around the legendary quartz-locked direct drive motor developed by Technics. This system provides extremely stable rotational accuracy with exceptionally low wow and flutter, making it suitable not only for professional applications but also for demanding audiophile listening systems.
Technical specifications include a quartz controlled direct drive motor with an extremely low wow and flutter of approximately 0.025% WRMS. The platter is a precision die-cast aluminum unit with a diameter of approximately 332 mm and a weight of around 1.7 kg. The turntable supports three playback speeds: 33⅓ RPM, 45 RPM and 78 RPM, the latter being a unique feature of the MK4 model within the classic SL-1200 range.
The tonearm is the classic Technics statically balanced S-shaped arm with an effective length of 230 mm and a 15 mm overhang. Adjustable anti-skating and a calibrated tracking force range of 0–4 g allow precise cartridge setup. The integrated pitch control offers a ±8% adjustment range with quartz lock stabilization.
The chassis combines a die-cast aluminum top plate with a heavy vibration-damped base structure designed to minimize resonance. Overall dimensions are approximately 453 × 360 × 162 mm and the total weight of the unit is about 12.5 kg, reflecting the robust construction typical of the SL-1200 engineering philosophy.
Condition grading for collectors and buyers generally follows the market standards for vintage high-end audio equipment. Units in good working condition typically range between 2,000 and 3,500 EUR, while excellent preserved examples often reach 3,500 to 5,000 EUR. Rare audiophile custom versions such as this limited edition may achieve values between 5,000 and 9,000 EUR depending on cosmetic condition, originality of modifications and completeness.
This particular turntable is presented in excellent visual and technical condition with beautifully preserved surfaces and carefully executed custom components. The overall presentation reflects the level of care expected from a collectible piece designed for both listening pleasure and long-term investment in the vintage audio market.
Collectors and serious analog enthusiasts are invited to acquire this exclusive Technics SL-1200MK4 Limited Edition through TechnoGold. With more than 40 years of experience in the vintage audio market, TechnoGold has built a reputation for reliability, expertise and carefully selected high-end equipment.
