Rated at 250 watts per channel into 8 ohms from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, with no more than 0.1% total harmonic distortion, the M-77 offers considerable power for a high-quality stereo system. It also provides a rated 250 watts per channel into 4 ohms when correctly configured using its rear impedance selector.

Its amplifier design features a complementary OCL circuit with a triple push-pull output stage. A substantial power supply supports its performance, reflecting the engineering ambition behind Pioneer’s premium separate components of the period.

Technical specifications include a frequency response of 5 Hz–80 kHz (+0/−1 dB), a signal-to-noise ratio of 110 dB and a damping factor of 50. Input sensitivity is 2 V, with an input impedance of 50 kΩ, allowing connection to a suitable stereo preamplifier.
